General Information about JOSO
Overview
1. Organizational Structures and Rules
Since its foundation in 1958/69 JOSO is a convention of solar physicists working together on a voluntary basis. It has no legal status, no membership fees, no budget and a minimum of rules. Expenses are covered ad hoc by voluntary contributions from adhering institutes.
Decisions and recommendations are made by the JOSO Board. Its members are solar physicists representing their home countries. As a rule they have to be approved by their respective science research council. Larger countries are represented by two members and two alternate members. smaller countries by one member and one alternate member.
The executive organ of the Board consists of four "officers":
- the President
- two Vice - Presidents and
- the Secretary.
Elections are held every three years; re-election is possible. All activities of JOSO are documented in a "JOSO Annual Report" issued under the responsibility of the Secretary.
JOSO is open for connections with other European organizations concerned with the advancement of solar physics.
