JIS - The Joint Information System

We want to inform you about a very useful tool called

JIS - The Joint Information System

http://www.solarJIS.com

which is part of the Opticon FP6 framework programme.

The institutes responsible for this project are:

  1. Institutsbereich für Geophysik, Astrophysik und Meteorologie (IGAM) - Graz
  2. Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias - Teneriffe
  3. Kiepenheuer Institut für Sonnenphysik - Freiburg.

AIM:

The aim of JIS is to overcome the present lack of detailed knowledge amongst the European Solar Physics community by means of offering to this community, a dynamic and user-friendly computing tool. JIS allows an easy access to information about scientists, institutes and groups working in the field of Solar Physics in Europe and gives the members a tool to start new relationships to fellow scientists or institutions.

The FREE membership allows you to get access to the restricted area with information about the scientists themselves and more detailed information about the institutes and groups working in solar physics in Europe.

What exactly is JIS about?

JIS is a database containing information about the institutes and observatories working in the field of solar physics in Europe. Only the data provided by the different institutes, which have agreed to cooperate with JIS, will be shown on the webpages. No further information is added to the database by the JIS-administrator. The policy of this tool is to guarantee the highest possible grade of security for the enclosed data and full control for each institute, represented by an institute administrator, over their own information stored in the database.

The tool can only become successful with the cooperation of all European solar physics institutions. With little effort from your side by adding data about your institute/observatory and the scientists to the database, JIS could become a real powerful tool for all European solar physicists.

You will get a more detailed impression of this tool, if you look at the website and its features:

If you want to join JIS or if you want to get temporary access to the secured area, send an email to the JIS superadministrator.
